I would like to personally
welcome you to these windows into our M.S. graduate program in Pharmaceutical
Sciences with a curriculum in Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy (PEP). This
is an exciting time for studies in PEP here at the University of Arkansas for
Medical Sciences (UAMS). The PEP program is growing and expanding and will be
housed in state of the art facilities with the newest equipment and office space
which will physically bridge the Colleges of Pharmacy and Public Health. The
PEP program has also been recruiting additional faculty investigators to
complement the existing strengths of faculty already dedicated to the PEP
program. By 2007, we plan on offering both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees so that
students that enter in Fall semester of 2005 can track directly into a Ph.D.
program. One of the unique features of the PEP program at UAMS, is that it is
located on a research oriented academic medical campus with investigators
studying many facets of health care all placed in a friendly environment with
abundant recreational opportunities available in Little Rock and throughout the
state of Arkansas.
Students that study
Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy will receive advanced research training in
the delivery and value of pharmaceutical products and services and contribute to
health policy and program development that benefits society. Using a
multidisciplinary approach, individuals in the program will acquire the
abilities to conduct research that evaluates the value of pharmaceutical
products, services, and financing systems as well as explore epidemiologic and
social behavioral issues surrounding pharmaceutical use. The program will
prepare individuals for managerial positions in the pharmaceutical industry,
contract research organizations, managed care organizations, government
agencies, academia, and will serve as a feeder program for graduates wishing to
pursue Ph.D. training.
I would encourage you to
peruse these web pages to learn about our curriculum, our faculty, and our
campus. I will be happy to answer any of your questions about our program and
if you find yourself in the Little Rock area, I would encourage you to arrange a
visit to meet with the PEP faculty and tour our facilities.
