Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy
» Admissions
Academic Degree Requirements
Students wishing to
enroll in the Pharmaceutical Sciences programs with an emphasis in
Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy M.S. program track must possess, at
minimum, a Bachelor degree from an accredited four-year college or university, a
M.D. or a Pharm.D. degree. Preference is given to applicants who hold either a
B.S. in pharmacy or a Pharm.D. and who are licensed to practice pharmacy in the
United States or one of its territories. U.S. licensed practitioners of
medicine, nursing, public health, or other allied health professions also
receive preference. Exceptional applicants with academic training in related
fields such as psychology, law, biology, chemistry, economics, finance,
political science, or marketing would be considered and are encouraged to apply.
Criteria to Evaluate Applicants
To be competitive for admission, applicants should have a 3.0 GPA equivalent or
higher, a GRE score (verbal + quantitative) of at least 1050 with scores greater
than 1200 being considered more competitive. Foreign applicants should obtain
scores of at least 600 on the paper based, 250 on the computer based, and 100 on
the Internet based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants
with one or more years of professional post graduate work experience in a field
related to PEP and or previous research experience that has resulted in
conference presentations or published manuscripts are a plus. These factors in
addition to an evaluation of the statement of purpose, at least three letters of
recommendation, and optional student interview will be used to rank applicants.
Application Deadlines
For applicants desiring to start fall semester, completed applications should be
received before January 10 of the same calendar year for early
consideration and admission. Only exceptional applicants will be evaluated
prior to the routine deadline of March 1. Applicants that would be competitive
for national scholarships and awards are strongly encouraged to apply for early
admissions. All applications should be received by March 1. Top tier
candidates will be invited to a phone or on-site interview shortly after March
1. Initial admission recommendation decisions are generally made by April 1,
and applicants are notified shortly thereafter. Though nearly all of our
positions for new graduate students become available to start in the fall
semester, we do occasionally review applicants for admission in the spring
semester if there are positions available. Because there are often no positions
available in the spring semester, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply
for fall semester admission. However, if applicants wish to be considered for
spring admission, they must have a completed application prior to August 1 of
the preceding calendar year.
