Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy
M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences
The
Pharmaceutical Sciences M.S. program offers a curriculum
with a concentration in Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy
(PEP) to meet the training needs of persons with business,
science, and health care backgrounds wishing to acquire the
research skills in pharmaceutical evaluation and
pharmacoeconomics, health outcomes assessment, policy
analyses, and social behavioral research in pharmacy.
Pharmaceuticals are increasingly being used to cure, treat,
manage, or provide relief for many human afflictions,
however, issues of financing, efficiency, access, adherence,
and safety of pharmaceuticals continue to challenge the
health care systems of the world. The goal of the
Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy (PEP) graduate program
is to advance and disseminate knowledge about the delivery
and value of pharmaceutical products and services and
contribute to health policy and program development that
benefits society. Using a multidisciplinary approach,
individuals in the program will acquire the abilities to
conduct research that evaluates the value of pharmaceutical
products, services, and financing systems. The program will
prepare individuals for managerial positions in the
pharmaceutical industry, contract research organizations,
managed care organizations, government agencies, academia,
and will serve as a feeder program for graduates wishing to
pursue PhD training. Ultimately, a new UAMS PhD program
will be developed in Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy
for which graduates of the MS program could pursue.
