Information for Preceptors

We, at the College of Pharmacy would like to recognize the most important aspect of our Experiential Education Program…our Preceptors. The College of Pharmacy owes you a debt of gratitude for offering our students an educational opportunity only you can provide. You are an invaluable component in the educational experience of the University of Arkansas pharmacy graduate!

Guidelines for Preceptors:

1. The Pharmacist who will supervise the student must be a registered Preceptor by the Arkansas Board of Pharmacy.

New preceptor licenses must be requested individually from the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy at 501-682-0190.

Pharmacists whose preceptor certificate has expired need only to renew. Please call the Board for a renewal form.

The College of Pharmacy will be happy to reimburse pharmacists for any costs involved in obtaining or renewing a Preceptor License.

2. The practice site must be approved by the Department of Pharmacy Practice.

3. The approved internship experience shall consist of a minimum of 160 clock hours. We accept considerable flexibility in scheduling rotation hours, allowing maximum latitude for students and preceptors.

4. Rotations begin on the first of each month, with the actual start date determined by the preceptor. Each student should contact his or her preceptor approximately one week before the scheduled rotation month.

5. All grades should be turned in to the Director of Experiential Education at the conclusion of each rotation. Grades can be phoned in, mailed in, or sent through electronic mail. Please see the "How to Contact Us" page for address, telephone, and electronic mail information.
