ADVANCED COMMUNITY PHARMACY - OTC

OTC Formulary Instructions

A nonprescription formulary is a document designed to be a reference for yourself or other pharmacy students or pharmacists.  It should assist them in choosing an appropriate medication for a specific disease state or patient complaint.  You may choose any of the commonly recognized problems/diseases or domains listed in Section III of your manual.  At a minimum, the formulary should contain the following information about each product:

  • Brand name

  • Active ingredient and strength

  • Therapeutic classification

  • Directions for use

  • Warnings and precautions

  • Adverse effects

  • Drug interactions

This information may be written out in bulleted format or may be included in a table type format.
